One final screening for Chicago next week! Capone has details on how to win passes to Richard Kelly's THE BOX!!!
Hey everyone. Capone in Chicago here.
I first met Richard Kelly when he came through Chicago with his Director's Cut of DONNIE DARKO, after which he did an intimate Q&A at a theater in the city known as Facets Cinematheque, not a venue that does a lot of these kind of screenings, but one of the finest venues to see rarely screened work nonetheless. It's not a big screening room, and that made the evening all the more special. I didn't moderate that particular Q&A--no one did--I was just a civilian in the crowd loving the movie and his discussion.
The second time I saw him was at Harry's wedding. He had just gotten the money he needed to polish off SOUTHLAND TALES and was just days away from shooting THE BOX. I know I was in the minority on this one, but I genuinely admired what Kelly pulled off with SOUTHLAND TALES, but I don't exactly pick a fight with people who didn't dig it. Still, I think Kelly's latest work has a great deal of potential at being his most commercially accessible and successful. It also looks fucking creepy. I have 60 seats to give to Chicago-area Ain't It Cool readers for THE BOX, starring Cameron Diaz, James Marsden, and Frank Langella. You know the set up already: a young couple struggling financially is given an opportunity to make $1 million, the only consequence being one they will likely never see. That's the starting off point. It gets a little more insane from that point forward.
The Chicago premiere of THE BOX will take place on Thursday, November 5 at 7:30pm at a theater in downtown Chicago (the exact location will only be given to contest winners). Please keep in mind that this is not an exclusive AICN screening, and is oversold slightly to guarantee maximum capacity.
Here's how to secure a pass good for you and one guest: Send me an email at capone@aintitcoolmail.com with the subject line "BOX ME IN". In the body of the email, I need your Name, whether or not you're bringing a Guest (guests' names are not required), and the answer to the following question (read carefully): What do you think happens when and if the button is pushed? Limit your entries to 50 words or less (no matter how tempted you are to go over the limit). If you actually know what happens in the movie, then telling me that isn't very creative. So make something up. Winners will receive an email from over the weekend. Good luck, everyone! Hope to see you there.
